Why Do We have Candles In Church
Why do we light Candles in Church? Short answer is a candles teach us what we are to do and how we are suppose to live up to the lord's name .
What does a candle do ? What can a candle teach us? Well first of all candle gives light! In the darkest of rooms Light just one candle and something changes. Across a pitch-black warehouse in the middle of the night you can see it you can follow the light and find your way home .
Candle gives life! In Matthew  Chapter 5 "You are the light of the  world!" When you light a candle and put it on a stand, that candle gives light to the entire room. A Candle teaches us that we are made to  be the light of the world. In  the mist of the darkness we are suppose to  stand and shine the Light to others, so that they can meet us
So  every year on the vigil of Easter! A giant candle is lit, “the Easter candle” This represents Christ whose light shines through the whole world as he is consumed on Good Friday to give Light to all of us. As we come into the church we all have little candles and from the Light of Christ we light the small  candle which represents Christ. The  little candle represents us  as we are called to give a light to the world.
How does candle  give life? Isn’t candle made out of wax, so as we know the candle gives light as the wax burn. As the wax melts slowly and slowly and slowly the candle  gives of itself and is consumed the light shines forth to the world and the candle decreases.  Didn’t John the Baptist say the same thing?

So the next time you see candles next to the altar we should remember his sacrifice for the light of the world! I challenge you today to light a candle and pray for someone.
